How To Clean Your Piano

March 26, 2020 Hannah Mortensen
calgary music teacher piano violin private instructor hannah mortensen

Keeping your piano clean is very important when stopping the spread of germs  And now is as good a time as any to learn how to clean your piano properly!

Pianos can get pretty dirty and it’s good to clean it once a week. I clean mine every day since it’s used more often.

Since piano keys are commonly made of wood they can be pretty sensitive to the wrong cleaning products. I like to dilute a disinfectant cleaner in water (the amounts aren’t precise) and I even add a little vinegar.

I don’t spray it directly on the keys because if any liquid seeps between the keys it can damage the wood. Instead, I spray my rag regularly as I wipe down the piano. I also make sure to get in between all the black keys and not just the tops.

After I wipe down the keys I clean off all the surrounding areas in the same manner, like the fall board and the very front of the piano.

If you have any questions about how to clean your piano please just contact me and I’ll be happy to help!

Happy cleaning everyone!
